Free Speech Hurts Short-Term, Benefits Long-Term

Allowing extreme speech like the KKK on campus may do more harm in the short term, even creating more hate, but it produces much greater long-term benefit by moving the entire society toward a deeper, more accurate understanding—getting rid of the Nazis in the long term even if it adds to their number in the short term.
