No physicalist theory of consciousness can currently explain any specific conscious experience such as the taste of chocolate, smell of garlic, or taste of mint, despite three decades of intensive research by brilliant colleagues working on integrated information theory, global workspace theory, and orchestrated collapse of quantum states in microtubules.
