Science, while indispensable and one of humanity's most fundamental tools, does not take us far enough because being human involves fears, anxieties, death, dread, despair, and betrayal, which require stories, narratives, symbols, and metaphors—the domain of poets and philosophers—rather than scientific frameworks.
