The Air Force is looking to use B-1s as non-traditional ISR (intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance), which is generally a data-driven method of intelligence gathering rather than hardware-centric, utilizing the B-1's Link-16 jam-resistant data link and beyond-line-of-sight network connections to gather information from other platforms, process it, and transmit it as usable targeting data.
