Movement Survival Depends On True-Believer Depth

Whether a movement survives the loss of its charismatic founder depends on its type: large movements like effective altruism have enough true believers in the next order of the community to keep going if leaders disappear, whereas smaller, more nascent communities oriented around a single charismatic founder behave like cults or religions and fall apart when the leader is lost.
