Soviet economy fundamentally unworkable despite reforms

The Soviet economy was fundamentally not a workable economy: after a genuine post-war 'economic miracle' in the 1950s, it ran into serious problems that Khrushchev's administrative innovations (including planting corn) could not fix, and it survived only by leaning on oil and gas exports.
