Tinus was a Chinese engineer trained at MIT and Caltech who worked for the DOD and co-founded JPL but was accused of communist sympathies during the Red Scare, imprisoned, and eventually deported in a prisoner exchange; his deportation unintentionally jump-started China's entire space program and ICBM development.
