Fear of humiliation drives male violence

There is an inverse correlation between a young man's actual fighting skill and his likelihood of being goaded into unnecessary violence; the dominant concern of men—both fighters entering a cage and men signing up to learn self-defense—is not getting hurt but being humiliated in front of family and friends, a deep, uniquely male fear that women do not share.
