Contrary to the romantic view of open source as a collective volunteer effort, it actually converges from broad collaborative participation down to single creators—a 'Wizard of Oz' model where one person behind the curtain does everything—and this undervalued reality means a small number of single creators drive much of the internet and cultural production today.
