If a battery charger is connected to the switched side of the circuit (downstream of the battery switch) rather than the unswitched side (upstream), turning off the battery switch will disconnect the charger from the batteries while leaving it connected to the loads via the panel, creating dangerous 'magic' where loads receive power despite the battery being nominally disconnected.
