Hyper-partisanship is partly a reflection of incentives created by our culture and how we choose to engage: what we like, share, and celebrate on social media—favoring the horse race or boxing match over actual dialogue about solving problems—shapes the politics we get, so individuals can play a constructive role by not sharing the most egregious meme, which is not the practice of citizenship.
