Duchamp is remembered in art history despite his complete abandonment of art because of the 1960s and Andy Warhol, who reinvented and re-ran all of Duchamp's practices (kinetic art, mobile, aleatoric music, crossdressing, performance) but added the crucial difference: grandiosity, institutional weight, New York fundraising, society balls, and sponsorship.
