IIT is the first scientific theory to bridge the noumenal (things as they are in themselves, the inner subjective realm) and the phenomenal (things as they appear to us, the physical measurements): it correlates subjective experience reports with brain activity measurements, building a mathematical bridge between first-person consciousness and third-person neuroscience.
