Two-Step Reduction Of Reality In Color

Our experience of reality undergoes a two-step reduction: first from all of physical reality down to the narrow visible spectrum our senses can perceive, and then a second radical reduction from the roughly 2 million distinguishable shades down to a handful of basic color terms (no language has more than about a dozen), which are nonetheless good enough for their cultural purpose.
