Differentiated university grade offers as defensible discrimination

Positive discrimination such as setting lower entry grade offers for state-school applicants than private-school ones, or running a foundation year for marginalized students who then sit the same final exams, is defensible because it acknowledges that disadvantage was no fault of the student while preserving a common standard at the end—unlike DEI that simply lowers the bar for a type of person.
