Meritocratic Elites Lack Stewardship Socialization

The US uniquely has both aristocratic elites (who inherit wealth and are socialized into public stewardship) and meritocratic elites (who earn wealth in their lifetimes but are not socialized into how to think about their responsibility to society), so meritocratic elites tend to either hoard wealth or default into aristocratic patterns when their children simply inherit the fortune without that socialization.
