The Biden administration achieved four colossal early victories in Ukraine: Ukraine's defense of its sovereignty, revitalization of the Western alliance and partners, humiliation of Russia's military competence, and Europe's shift away from Russian energy dependence and closer alignment with the U.S. on China policy; however, by refusing to consolidate these victories and instead keeping them at risk for territorial gains in the Donbas and Sea of Azov, the administration let a window for a favorable armistice in fall 2022 close.
