Doubting Free Will Increases Compassion

Recognizing the deep doubt about free will, while initially uncomfortable, produces a net positive: it leads to greater compassion for flawed humanity and shifts societal thinking away from retributive punishment toward living in harmony, since we recognize the factors that lead people to do things even while still holding them accountable.
