China has installed anti-air and anti-surface missile systems around the Three Gorges Dam and maintains a regional theater missile defense shield to protect the dam, and Chinese media claims the dam's steel and concrete construction and massive weight would allow it to withstand damage to single sections and potentially even a tactical nuclear strike.
