Colonial exploitation likely contributed to capitalist surplus

Imperialism and capitalism arose together, and although co-occurrence is not proof of causation, there is likely a causal link because colonial exploitation and invasions generated surplus (for example through plantations) that fed into Western capitalist development, making the magnitude of colonialism's contribution a crucial but inadequately studied question.
