Communication is lossy compression and decompression

Human communication is a lossy process where the speaker must model the listener's mind state, compress a concept into a small number of syllables, and hope the listener decompresses them into a conceptual structure close to the original intent; a large part of brain computation is devoted to this distillation of concepts into symbols.
