Robots lack latitude to react to surprises in surgery

Human surgeons are general-purpose machines that can dynamically change the plan mid-surgery when surprised (such as discovering a hidden aneurysm), whereas current surgical robots operate according to a fixed program with little latitude to react to changing conditions, though AI may dramatically broaden the parameters for robot responsiveness in the future the way self-driving cars handle unexpected events.
