The GOP's rationalization of January 6th followed a predictable pattern starting with Kevin McCarthy: first the false-flag antifa story, then a whataboutism comparing it to Black Lives Matter riots to morally excuse dropping FBI prosecutions, then 'it wasn't worse than the other side,' and finally 'it was good actually and we had to do it because the election was stolen.'
