Artificial neural networks used in AI (like those running ChatGPT) are vastly oversimplified models of biological neural networks: artificial neurons are modeled as binary (firing or not firing) whereas real neurons operate on continuous analog potentials; artificial networks have far fewer connections than biological brains; and recent evidence suggests biological neurons can sustain quantum coherence in microtubules, orders of magnitude more complex than digital artificial systems.
