Russia is best understood not as an ideological dictatorship but as a mafia state where Putin is the boss (capo di tutti capi) and loyalty is purchased through personal gain rather than belief in communism, imperialism, or nationalism, which means his henchmen will not sacrifice their lives for him as fanatics in Nazi Germany or Stalin's USSR did.
