Commercial society encroaches on personal relationships

The Wealth of Nations sphere of commercial, market interactions is increasingly encroaching on the Theory of Moral Sentiments sphere of family, friends, and community, not because of external coercion but because individuals themselves, by trying to maximize their income, voluntarily convert personal interactions into commercial ones, shifting the proportion between the two spheres.
