Even receiving a Nobel Prize and holding tenure does not guarantee that a scientist's views will be taken seriously or respected by colleagues: the example of Brian Josephson at Cambridge shows that colleagues actively worked to prevent him from having students and influence, despite his Nobel Prize and position as a fellow of Trinity College, because of his interests in consciousness and psychic phenomena.
