Source of US Migration Is Shifting Globally

Mexican net migration to the US went flat about 15 years ago because NAFTA-driven industrialization crashed Mexico's birth rate, then shifted to a Central American story until CAFTA similarly collapsed those birth rates, so absent reform the next migration wave will not be neighbors walking north but people fleeing from all over the world (Indians, Chinese, Rwandans, Angolans) entering through the porous southern border — a far more complex cultural and law-enforcement challenge.
