Democracy as a Way of Life Beyond Institutions
Following Dewey, democracy is a way of life and mode of existence carrying its own spirit, sensibilities, and sentiments that inform institutions; when democratic institutions are no longer informed by a democratic spirit, they get manipulated, dominated, and colonized by oligarchs who may still call it democracy though it has little to do with democratic practice.
