Liszt and Wagner mutually borrowed material

Liszt had every right to do what he wanted with Wagner in his transcriptions because the two had a complex relationship of mutual borrowing—when Liszt arranged Parsifal he was to some degree arranging his own ideas that Wagner had appropriated, taking them back.
