Individuals vs forces in history

Kissinger observed that as a Harvard professor he thought history was determined by great forces and groups, but seeing it up close he saw what a difference an individual can make; biographers admit they distort history by over-attributing it to individuals, yet some history (like Musk's, or special and general relativity) genuinely is individual-driven while other developments (the microchip, the iPhone era) are flows of forces and teams.
