Pursue duty and spiritual fullness not happiness
Drawing from The Gulag Archipelago, Jonas argues you should not pursue happiness directly because its ingredients (health, circumstance) can be taken from you outside your control; instead pursue spiritual fullness and duty, and happiness may come alongside, as illustrated by the babushkas who died in the camps but kept their souls uncorrupted while survival-obsessed prisoners turned into animals.
