Doing The One Thing You Learned Versus What Matters

A common career trap is that you go from being able to do zero things as a graduate student to being able to do one thing by the end, and there is a strong temptation to keep doing that one hard-won thing for fifty years even though it may not be the most interesting or important thing to do; thinking bigger and switching focus to what is genuinely most important is difficult but worthwhile.
