In cardiac-emergency calls, the tiny linguistic difference between 'tell me exactly what happened' (simple past, prompting a narrative of causes) and 'tell me exactly what's happened' (present perfect, focusing on the current situation) produces different responses and, on average, different times to dispatch an ambulance — showing word choice has direct, consequential effects on behavior, and that not all languages even encode this tense distinction.
