Solar and wind require a non-renewable backstop

Because solar and wind are intermittent and we lack adequate energy storage technology, any modern grid relying on them needs a backstop that is logically gas, oil, natural gas, nuclear, or coal — so no amount of solar/wind eliminates the need for firm baseload power.
