Equality of opportunity wins where quotas fail
The left should emphasize equality of opportunity, which people intuitively accept as fair, rather than affirmative action and quotas, which people revolt against; universal welfare programs help more black people without singling out a racial group and making everyone else feel like chopped liver, so the left needs to be smarter about how it frames its causes.
