Fortifying the southern border is self-defeating because building a wall first requires constructing access roads across the Chihuahua and Sonora deserts, which obviates half of the continent's greatest natural barrier; an unpatrolled desert border is more secure against illegal migration than a fortified one, making Trump effectively the most pro-illegal-migrant president in history.
