Rockefeller Wanted Finite Foundations
Foundations existing in perpetuity is an accident of charter law, not original intent: when John D. Rockefeller first proposed foundations he wanted them to have a finite end state of only 50 or 100 years and sought a federal charter to that effect, but the federal charter failed, leaving state charters that let foundations exist forever.
