In California it takes 664 state-mandated hours to become a police officer, compared with 1600 hours to become a cosmetologist and 1500 to become a barber—more than double—and those 664 hours must cover firearms, hand-to-hand combat, arrest and control, and legal policy, so officers learn a little about everything but master nothing.
