Emotion categories are populations of patterns, not single signatures

There is no single neural pattern for any emotion category; concepts like anger, fear, or disgust are highly situated populations of patterns, because what you do in an emotion (heart rate up or down, scowl or smile, approach or withdraw, pleasant or unpleasant) varies by situation, so the brain pattern varies with context—this is population thinking as Darwin conceived it, not 'weasel words.'
