Faustus's Out-of-Season Grapes No Longer Tempt

Marlowe's Doctor Faustus is underrated and reveals how much material expectations have changed: the scene where Mephistopheles brings Faustus grapes out of season was once marvelous, but in an age of Whole Foods around the corner, modern Americans cannot imagine selling their soul to the devil merely to obtain out-of-season grapes.
