Wagner is harder to perform than Beethoven because of fusion

Wagner opera is more vulnerable to a loss of meaningfulness than Beethoven piano sonatas because opera requires fusing many interdependent elements—the right singers, conductor, and stage director—whereas a solo pianist can produce a great recording without depending on all those cogs and wheels.
