Past/Future Asymmetry Is Thermodynamic Not Fundamental
The reason we treat the past as fixed and the future as open is that the present contains many traces of past events and few of future events — a contingent thermodynamic fact arising from the entropy gradient — not a fundamental feature of nature; microscopically, the past and future are exactly symmetric.
