Steroid accusations are a self-defense mechanism
Accusing athletes of steroid use without data is often a psychological self-defense mechanism—it's easier to attribute someone's superiority to drugs than to accept their genetics are far superior—which is corrosive because some people are simply genetically gifted and clean, and they deserve to be celebrated rather than smeared.
