Silence is read as acquiescence

In the current climate, an individual's silence on a political issue is uncharitably counted as acquiescence or even endorsement of evil, so people who decline to share opinions—out of privacy, uncertainty, or nuance—are wrongly treated as complicit or racist, battering organizational self-esteem.
