Conflict can build community and clarify norms
One thing honor cultures grasp that modern society misses is that conflicts themselves can produce benefits—building solidarity and clarifying the boundaries of acceptable behavior—because face-to-face encounters allow people to understand where others are coming from and internalize norms in a way that impersonal sanctions like suspension or expulsion cannot, the latter merely deepening alienation and grievance.
