The Thucydides Trap is not inevitable — Graham Allison himself noted it occurs only about half the times a rising power challenges an established one — and the China case is weaker still because China's rise depended on the American-led globalized order it is now even more dependent on, so a war would not merely defeat China but trigger de-industrialization and famine.
