Staying relaxed is the key skill in grappling

The core skill in jiu-jitsu, for both beginners and elite competitors, is remaining calm in bad positions rather than panicking; panic causes fatigue (in guard retention and escapes) and explosive movement from stuck positions causes injuries, so staying relaxed both preserves longevity and reflects the ultimate confidence that an opponent cannot submit you.
