CDC published 1918 flu genome after reverse genetics existed

The CDC published the 1918 flu genome to the internet in 2005 — at least five or six years after reverse genetics was pioneered for influenza — when an estimated hundred people could already reanimate the virus, a number that has since grown by two orders of magnitude, and no vaccine improvements have been attributed to the publication in the 20 years since.
