It is entirely possible the war has reached its end state — not that fighting will stop, but that the current chaotic attritional situation, allowing for variations in intensity and minor front-line movement, can continue almost indefinitely with no necessity for the character of the war or the political situation to change, contrary to the constant search for a way out or solution.
